People have been explaining this thing to me for years, and finally I get it!
[Above and below means something different in every industry, apparently. In financial services, I always thought it meant direct expenses e.g. interest versus overheads. And then there's above and below the fold, from newspaper publishing, that has made it's way to web pages generally. Even though there's no fold.]
