Customer relationship: a relationship that is valued by the client/customer, and valuable to the company.
Anything less than this, and it's database marketing, even if you call it Customer Relationship Management.

Dona Vitale: Consumer Insights 2.0: How Smart Companies Apply Customer Knowledge to the Bottom Line
Fantastic book. Has an excellent case study about how customer insights were gathered an used. I met Dona at a conference, and got a lot out of her talk, and I feel the same way about her book. (****)Roger Von Oech: Whack on the Side of the Head

Excellent book. Sets forth a step-by-step innovation / productive thinking process that anyone can use or learn from. Very straightforward, and lacks a lot of the gobble-de-gook of other books on innovation. Good diagrams, good exercises. (****)
